Woodpecker Hut located near Punakaiki is a beautiful spot to relax off the grid. You are fully immersed in nature, with the hut sitting on top of a coastal cliff. You can unwind in the cedar hot tub whilst watching the sunset over the ocean, and then continue on to have your dinner under the stars, it truly is such a breath taking experience.
Woodpecker Hut dining is all outside, so if your heading there in the cooler months make sure you pack your warm clothes and don't forget bug spray! The hut is split into two parts, the main side is the master hut, where you will find a large cozy bed. With there being no blinds, you can watch the stars and listen to the ocean from the comfort of the bed too - so dreamy!!
The other side of the hut is where you will find the lounge hut, where you can hang out by the fire, relaxing with a wine or two - there are also a couple of extra beds in here too. The decor of Woodpecker Hut is simple and beautiful. Rustic vibes with soft fur throws and furnishings to give you that homely, but super cosy feel.
The one experience that was new to me back when we started our Canopy Adventures in 2017, was the composting toilet. At first I was a little hesitant but it's actually not bad at all! Think of it like a luxury long drop lol!
Overall Woodpecker Hut is absolutely stunning, if your adventurous like us you will love exploring the property and surrounding areas. The West Coast is home to lots of beautiful walks and don't forget if you have time to check out the turquoise waters of Hokitika Gorge it is simply stunning!
